THE INTERNET: Now and Next Generation
Featuring Lawrence H. Landweber, Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at UW-Madison, and Senior Advisor of the National Science Foundation's Computer & Information Science & Engineering Directorate.
Internet technology has changed the world - how we live, work and interface with society. An internationally-renowned pioneer of the Internet, Lawrence H. (Larry) Landweber, will reflect on the Internet's history/phases, describe the Internet of today and the near future, reveal current initiatives that will enable new and revolutionary Internet applications, and explain what still needs to be done to make increased Internet capabilities possible.
Larry Landweber has been on the faculty of the UW-Madison since 1967, serving twice as Computer Science Department Chair, and until July 2001 he held the John P. Morgridge Chair. In 1979, he proposed establishment of CSNET, the Computer Science Network, which served as the first large-scale validation of the Internet and the first incarnation of the Internet as we know it today. Landweber co-founded Early Stage Research in 2000, an angel investment group that concentrates on business opportunities in the Midwest.
